In-person METI Internships in Japan:

The in-person internship under the METI Government of Japan Internship 2026 will take place at small to medium-sized companies in Japan (excluding non-profit organizations, industry associations, and local governments).

First Term: 7 October – 26 November 2026
Second Term: 4 November – 18 December 2026

METI Japan Online Internships:

It will be conducted remotely within the intern’s workspace under the management and direction of the host company.

Online Internship:
24 August – 18 September 2026 (up to 20 days, approximately 80 hours in total)

Eligibility Criteria of the METI Japan Internship Program 2026:

Students or professionals with advanced skills who are nationals of countries listed on the OECD/DAC list (excluding the People’s Republic of China) are eligible for this international internship program. You can check your country’s eligibility here.

Furthermore, applicants must agree on the purpose of the program and should be willing to cooperate with Japanese businesses to develop and promote overseas internationalization and business development of Japanese companies and to network with overseas universities.

Applicant must be proficient in English or Japanese (at least JLPT N3 / CEFR B1 level) to be eligible for the METI Government of Japan Internship 2026.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and generally not more than 39 years by 24 August 2026.

Applicants must be either final-year students or graduates of a university (undergraduate or graduate level).

Moreover, applicants must be able to submit a certificate of enrollment or graduation and a letter of recommendation from a university, faculty member, or affiliated institution (after passing document screening).

Applicants must be able to submit required certificates such as language test scores and other qualification documents.

Applicants must be able to take the required training and fully participate in this Japanese internship at the designated company.

In addition, applicants must not currently reside in Japan.

Applicants must not have participated as an intern between FY2016 and FY2025 programs.
