Universities, government laboratories and private companies invest billions of dollars in research and development of innovative technologies that have the potential to transform industries and lives, but very few of these technologies leave the laboratory. Those who do often do not find attractive market applications. So what determines success? How do you turn an invention into a lasting innovation?
In this introductory course, developed in collaboration with the Harvard Innovation Sciences Laboratory and the University of California, San Diego, you will explore how entrepreneurs combine promising technology with customer needs to launch successful new businesses. Using real-world examples, you will apply critical thinking to commercialize technologies and learn about the business creation process from founders, funders, and industry experts.
