Applications are open for the fully funded UN Global Climate Action Awards (COP 26) in Glasgow, Scotland, in November, the most important climate conference since the Paris Agreement was adopted in 2015. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of the awards program and its efforts to show that climate action is underway around the world.

The annual awards program, led by the United Nations on Climate Change since 2011, recognizes the world’s most innovative, scalable and reproducible examples of action to address climate change. This year’s awards will showcase individuals and projects taking bold and effective climate action in the areas of climate neutrality, innovative climate finance, and climate leadership.

    Organizations, communities, cities, companies, universities, governments and others that are taking concrete action on climate change can apply for their projects to be recognized by the UN Climate Change Secretariat as a 2021 winning activity.

The awards have recognized, for example, transformation initiatives such as the Quebec government’s climate finance program, Google’s Sunroof project, and Microsoft’s internal carbon fee. Other past winners also include the world’s greenest soccer club, the first all-female solar team in Lebanon, a Swedish restaurant chain that is creating the world’s first “climate-positive” menu, and one of the world’s first funds. national investment in environment and climate change in Africa.

    The 2021 UN Global Climate Action Awards will recognize climate action that is already achieving real and tangible results in three categories:


    1. Climate Neutral Now: recognizing efforts by individuals, companies and governments that are achieving real results in transitioning to climate neutrality.
    2. Financing for Climate Friendly Investment: recognizing successful financial innovations for adaptation and climate mitigation.
    3. Climate Leaders: recognizing transformational efforts by governments at any level (national, provincial, state, city, town) that are moving the needle on climate change.
