Application are now open for UNWTO Tourism Startup Competition 2020
For the second year in a row, the World Tourism Organization or UNWTO is holding the world’s largest tourism starter competition driven by Wakalua, the world center for tourism innovation.

Together with corporate partners, the UNWTO wants it to address the central concepts of travel that shape the future of the sector. Beat your competition with the most disruptive, innovative and sustainable solution and become the next game change in tourism.

Entrepreneurs can compete on the following track:

Deep Tech: location data and geolocation

  • Smart mobility
  • Rural development
  • Disruptive hospitality
  • Smart destinations

    Eligibility Criteria :

    To be eligible for the UNWTO Tourism Startup Competition , the startup must meet the UNWTO criteria that establish:

    • Projects with and without profit.
    • Similarly, the start must be in the Early Stage or in the Series A Stage
    • In addition, the startup is innovative in nature and provides sustainable and value-added solutions for the tourism sector.
    • Have scalability potential and a vision to grow internationally
    • In addition, the startup must have a business plan.

    Evaluation process for UNWTO Tourism Startup Competition is:

    • The UNWTO jury will evaluate tourism Startups projects according to five criteria:
    • The proposed value of the solution: Is the proposed solution unique, effective and feasible?
    • Business impact: Will the solution have a substantial impact on the area of ​​focus of choice?
    • Ability to collaborate with the startup: feasibility of agile collaboration/implementation in the short-medium term
    • Resources and equipment: How good is the team, in relation to the plan ahead?
    • Sustainability level: How is the environmental, economic and social impact produced by business activity?

    UNWTO startup competition offers:

    Pitch & Connect: Be one of the 3 main finalists of the challenge that will be presented to investors, mentors, leading companies and international tourism actors during the Grand Finals, one for the corporate challenge, in Madrid, Spain, on January 21, 2020. In addition, the UNWTO will cover the expenses of the finalist who travels to Spain.

    Network: Get a fully sponsored trip and free access to exclusive networking opportunities with tourism leaders and world tourism stakeholders during the Madrid International Tourism Fair from January 22 to 26, 2020 (FITUR).

    Pilot and mentoring: As a winner, you will have the opportunity to design a pilot project with the company that leads your challenge, as well as receives world-class tutoring.

    Pilot and extension: win the special Sustainability Award and also carry out a pilot test with Globalia, the leading tourism corporation in Spain and Latin America, which includes a 6-week extension program at the Wakalua center in Madrid, Spain.
