UNESCO-TWAS, in partnership with the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) of the Ministry of Science and Technology, India, is offering a fully funded fellowship program to facilitate international students hailing from developing countries who aspire to pursue PhD in biotechnology.

The research fellowship is open to all international students who have completed an MSc degree and want to pursue PhD research in India. DBT will provide a monthly stipend for living expenses, health insurance, and food. In addition, students will also receive a house rent allowance. So what are you waiting for?     Eligibility Criteria :

    Here are the eligibility Criteria for TWAS-DBT Postgraduate Fellowship

    • Applicants must be from a developing country other than India.
    • They should be of a maximum of 35 years of age on 31 December 2022.
    • Applicants must have a master’s degree or its equivalent.
    • Fellows must not possess visas for permanent or temporary residency in India or any developed country.
    • Furthermore, applicants must be willing to enroll in an Indian university for FULL-TIME Fellowships.
    • They must be enrolled in any university in their home country and provide the Registration and No Objection Certificate from the university in case of SANDWICH Fellowships.
    • Applicants must provide a research proposal outline.
    • Moreover, they must be accepted at an Indian biotechnology institute.
    • Applicant must provide an English proficiency certificate in case English was not the medium of education.
    • Most importantly, students must not receive any other funding for the duration of this research fellowship.
    • Applicants must provide evidence that they will return to their home country after completion of the fellowship.
    • Lastly, students will be financially responsible for any accompanying family members.

    Here are the benefits of the TWAS-DBT Postgraduate Fellowship 2022:

    • House rent allowance.
    • Monthly stipend for living expenses.
    • Allowance for food, and health insurance.
    • For SANDWICH Fellowships, funding might be provided for 12 months to 2 years.
    • For FULL-TIME Fellowships, DBT may provide funding for the initial fellowship period, 3 years.

    Given below are the details of the TWAS-DBT Postgraduate Fellowship for international students:

    • This program is tenable for a maximum of five years.
    • SANDWICH Fellowships (applicants who have already enrolled in Ph.D in their home country): The duration of this fellowship ranges from 12 months to 2 years.
    • FULL-TIME Fellowships: Those who have not yet enrolled in a Ph.D. program. Initially, these fellowships are granted for three years. However, the duration can be extended to two years, depending upon the student’s performance. Applicants will enroll in an Indian university, and the DBT will confirm the extension.
    • The language instruction is English.

    Application Process:

    • The application process for a fully funded fellowship is online.
    • Applicants can submit their applications via an online portal, click on the apply now button below.
    • If you already have created an account, click on the log-in with your credentials. However, if you are a new applicant, click on create an account.
    • Make sure to enter the information correctly; you cannot modify or update the application after submission.
    • Applicants who have already registered for a PhD in their home country should submit a NOC issued by the vice-chancellor or registrar of the university on headed paper.
    • Students must also submit reference letters on letter-headed paper, signed by the referee.
    • The deadline for the TWAS-DBT Postgraduate Fellowship is 15 September 2022.
    • Results of the international fellowship will be available at the end of 2022 or early 2023.
