SG Academies South-East Asia Fellowship 2023

Opportunities Circle is here with another international fellowship. SG Academies South-East Asia Fellowship (SASEAF) is accepting applications for 2023. Postgraduate researchers from South-East Asia are eligible to apply for this program. South Asia fellows will go to Singapore institutions for two years. Fellows will also receive a monthly stipend from $4000 to $6500. Moreover, they will access multiple professional development opportunities, including events, seminars, and training programs within the host institutions, NRF, and the three Singapore academies.

Founded in 1976, the Singapore National Academy of Science (SNAS) aims to promote the advance of science and technology in Singapore. They began to select their fellows by 2011. They aim to advance science, medicine, and engineering through research fellowship programs. This South-East Asia fellowship is administered by three academies in Singapore the Singapore National Academy of Science, the Academy of Medicine Singapore, and the Academy of Engineering Singapore and funded by the National Research Foundation (NRF).

    Eligibility Criteria :

    Are you from a South East Asian country? Then check the eligibility criteria for the SG Academies South-East Asia Fellowship below before starting the application.

    SG Academies South-East Asia Fellowship Eligibility:

    • Candidates must be citizens of a South-East Asian country (excluding Singapore).
    • Candidates must have a PhD degree from a reputable institution.
    • They must have some formal working experience after getting a PhD degree.
    • Candidates currently residing or working in Singapore are not eligible to apply for this program. However, Singaporean -based researchers with a confirmed job in public research institutions in their home countries with a starting date of 2-3 years can apply (Documentary proof of offer is required).
    • Furthermore, they should be under 40 years old at the time of application.
    • In addition, candidates must have good written and verbal English skills.
    • They may propose any research done in Singapore research institutions.
    • Preference will be given to those working on infectious diseases, public health, and environment or water-related research topics.

    Benefits of SG Academies South-East Asia Fellowship:

    • They will provide a monthly stipend ranging from $4,000 to $6,500. It may change depending upon the performance of the participant.
    • Provision of an additional $4,000 for overseas travel at the start and end of the two-year-long fellowship period.
    • Moreover, access to professional development opportunities, including events, seminars, and training programs within the host institutions, NRF, and the three Singapore academies.
    • A chance to explore Singaporean culture and strengthen the ties and cooperation between SASEA Fellows and Singapore.

     

    Evaluation Criteria:

    • Candidate’s training, aptitude, and experience: relevant experience, academic qualifications, performance, talent to benefit from the fellowship program, and ability to add value after returning to their home country.
    • Relevance and Quality of the Research Proposal: the quality of the research proposal should be good. It must be well-designed and innovative, and the set outputs must be achievable during the fellowship.
    • Personal Qualities: The candidate must consider the collaboration between South-East Asian countries important. In addition, he will try to strengthen the ties between academic bodies in the region. They should continue to practice science after completing this fellowship and contribute to scientific advancements through multiple means, including formal education, policy-making, or science promotion/application for a better, stronger South-East Asia.

     

    Required Documents for SG Academies South-East Asia Fellowship

    • Application form.
    • Research Proposal (no longer than two pages) developed in consultation with the host professor/PI at Singapore University.
    • Certified copies of diplomas and transcripts.
    • Two recommendation letters from the referees (preferably independent referees) stating the candidate’s suitability for this fellowship. The letters should be submitted directly by the candidate’s referee.

    Application Process:

    • Interested candidates can access the application form by visiting the apply now link below.
    • Candidates must obtain in-principle approval from their host professor/PI.
    • After getting the approval, candidates must complete the application form.
    • Combine all the supporting documents into one PDF and upload it on SG Academies’ online document submission portal. The document order should be the same as listed in this article.
