SDSN Global Schools Advocates 2019 by UN

SDSN Global Schools is an initiative led by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network of the United Nations – Youth Initiative (SDSN Youth) in support of the UNESCO Global Action Program on Education for Sustainable Development (GAP-ESD).

Nowadays it is one of the most talking points is the youth sustainable development goals so it is great opportunity  for you to  be a part of this SDSN youth program 

The vision of the 2019 promoter initiative is to generate interest on sustainable development in schools to educate and engage students with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and encourage them to prioritize these goals in their lifestyles, behaviors, education and professional careers…

By working with educators, the program seeks to fulfill its mission by transforming learning environments worldwide and making schools the centers of culture and leadership in the SDGs, eventually becoming vehicles for training and mobilizing students and youth to help them to implement the SDGs in their communities.

    Primary Criteria

    • The candidate MUST possess a good command of the English language.
    • The candidate MUST have excellent public speaking skills, be able to communicate well with key stakeholders and partners.
    • The candidate MUST be able to devote at least 6-8 hours per week for this role.
    • The candidate MUST be between 18 and 30 years of age to be eligible for this role.
    • The candidate MUST be autonomous, responsible and responsible for meeting their objectives
      Secondary criteria

    COMMITMENT: Candidates MUST be able to demonstrate that they are committed to the vision of the program and that they can work following the standards and level of professionalism established by the Global Schools.
    FLEXIBILITY: the candidate MUST be flexible and able to work with multiple deadlines and coordinate activities with various time zones; This may include calls and evening meetings.
    VERSATILITY: the candidate MUST be extremely versatile, especially to face the challenges posed by a newly formed and rapidly expanding organization.
    SELF-DETERMINATION: Candidates MUST be self-employed and be able to communicate with schools and local stakeholders with minimal supervision.

    Program objectives:

    • Integrate the Sustainable Development Goals in school environments.
    • Increase the capacity of educators and teachers to effectively deliver education in the
      Sustainable Development Goals.
    • Provide young people with opportunities to commit themselves to the Sustainable Development Goals at the local level.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Serving as the Global Schools Advocate will train you with the knowledge of the SDGs and the tools of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) to help transform learning environments, promote SDGs in diverse school environments and mobilize young people around to the SDGs.
    • Defenders will serve as champions of the Global Schools Program at the local level and will be given the mission of coordinating local efforts to train schools and teachers to educate children about the SDGs.

    The main responsibilities of the defenders include:

    Complete the training: Advocates will participate in a one-month online training program to develop their understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals, the Global Schools program and Education for Sustainable Development. This training will be supported by EdX and will consist of 4 weekly modules and will include videos, readings, tests and written assignments. Throughout the training, they will develop public speaking, research, mapping and presentation of critical skills for their future mission of Defensores. They will also develop their action plan to implement the Global Schools Program in their city.
    Increase the scope of the program: the defenders will act as Defenders of official Global Schools from July 2019 to January 2020 (6 months). As advocates, they will lead the local implementation of the Global Schools Program in their city, reaching the schools and the educator community to help the Global Schools.
    The program achieves its main objectives: to transform learning environments, to develop the capacities of educators and to empower and mobilize young people.
    Be a point of contact for your local community.
    Advocates will be tasked with disseminating the SDGs and training schools and teachers to educate children about the SDGs. They will serve as primary contact points for local stakeholders who wish to learn more about the concepts of the Global Schools, the SDGs and the ESD, and will inform and communicate about their activities.
