The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition is the oldest and most amazing international essay writing competition in the world. This international essay competition is offered to school students. It has been organized by the Royal Commonwealth Society since 1883. Thousands of students from different schools participate in this international writing competition yearly. This Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition welcomes applicants from all over the 52 Commonwealth countries. This international Essay program will produce a meaningful change in this world through youth perspective and thinking. There is no application fee for this essay writing contest. In general, the main themes of writing essays are democracy and equality. The Commonwealth Essay Competition 2023 is a great opportunity to earn achievement internationally and get recognized by a well-known organization.

Applicants will positively impact society through their creative writing and thinking. The selected applicants will get a chance to get a fully funded trip to London by winning this essay competition. The international writing contest 2023 from Commonwealth countries is divided into Junior Category and Senior Category. The applicants between the age of 14-18 fall in the Senior Category. The applicants below the age of 14 years come in the Junior Category. Each category has a different topic for essay writing, a winner and a runner-up. In addition to the fully funded trip to London, the winners of both categories of this commonwealth essay writing contest 2023 will receive gold, silver or bronze medals and all the entrants will receive a certificate of participation.

There are different writing topics for the senior and junior categories. Applicants in the Senior Category of this essay competition 2023 can the topics like writing a speech for the Head of the Commonwealth on the importance of decision-making of young people, discussing whether age matters, The 2023 Year of Youth produced significant social change, analyzing what its impact on the world was? or script a dialogue between two people with different viewpoints on an issue that divides generations. Applicants in the junior category will write on topics like Writing a letter to their favourite young hero and explaining why they admire him, journaling their experience on a planet where everyone is 18 or under, describing their youthful superpower and how it can impact the world positively or explain why your voice matters. This international essay writing competition will polish the writing skills of the entrants and will broaden their vision by interacting with international students.

Senior category Topics for Essay (14-18 years) 

  1. As Head of the Commonwealth, King is opening an international conference on the importance of young people in decision-making. Write his speech.

  4. Script a dialogue between two people, with contrasting viewpoints, on an issue that divides generations. 

Topics for Junior Category (under 14 years)

  1. In fiction and throughout history, young people have performed numerous acts of heroism. Select a favourite hero and write to them about why you admire them.
  2. What is your youthful superpower, and how can it make a positive difference in the world?
  3. You have been stranded on a planet where everyone is 18 or under. Journal (write) your experience.
  4. Why does your voice matter?

    Eligibility Criteria for the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2023

    • Applicants of the Senior Category should be between 14-18 years (born between 1 July 2004 and 30 June 2009) and in the Junior, Category, applicants should be under 14 years (born on or after 1 July 2009).
    • The Commonwealth essay competition is open to all Commonwealth counties and territories residents. Hong Kong, Ireland and Zimbabwe residents can also apply.
    • In the case of non-commonwealth countries applicants, their Local Royal Commonwealth Society Branch can submit their essay entries.
    • The essay entries must be submitted in the English language. Any other language is not accepted. 
    • The maximum number of words for the Senior Category essay is 1500 and for Junior Category is 750. Essays exceeding the word limit will be disqualified. The word limit is for every format of writing, e.g., essay, letter, poem, etc.
    • The essays should not contain the personal details of the applicants. Personal details will be given in the application process.
    • The essay topics must be selected from those topics provided in the Senior and Junior categories.
    • Plagiarism is not allowed, and plagiarised essays will automatically be rejected.
