Acquire skills such as interpersonal skills, endurance, flexibility and the ability to solve problems.
The Fellowship is the beginning of an exciting new chapter in your career. It opens the door to a career with a range of international agencies, NGOs, development consultancies and government organizations.
The Oxford Policy Fellows are high-caliber attorneys with an exceptional set of skills. The fellows have a strong academic background, and most of them have master’s degrees in law or a related field. While all scholars have legal experience, the nature of their experience is diverse.
Working in another country in a high pressure environment requires a lot of soft skills, such as interpersonal skills, endurance, flexibility and the ability to solve problems. These skills help the fellows adapt to a dynamic environment and build trustful relationships with government colleagues.
To date, the 30 OPF fellows come from 12 different countries around the world. Almost 60 percent of them from LMIC (low middle income countries).
The Oxford Policy Fellowship provides governments with a new type of technical assistance. Junior professionals are placed in government ministries for two years, freeing up important time and resources for senior officials. They are now starting the fifth year of the program, and appreciate the opportunity to work with more government counterparts that see added value in such support.
These are just some of the activities that the Fellows could support:
Conduct of legal investigations, from specific contractual terms to broader options for the design of the regulatory framework
Close the gap between policymakers and legal departments
Support political initiatives with appropriate legislative and regulatory frameworks
Liaise with the short-term superior legal technical assistance funded by donors
Being part of the community gives you access to a wider international network. Government managers and their colleagues will be invited to their annual knowledge exchange conference, where they will have the opportunity to share experiences and discuss similar challenges, as well as to interact with policy specialists from the academy, the British government and the private sector.
