IWMF Adelante Reporting Initiative Fellowship 2019 in Colombia

As part of the IWMF report initiative for Latin America, Adelante, six journalists will travel to Medellín, Colombia, from September 26 to October 11, 2019.

All the fellows who submit reports will begin their trip to Mexico City on the 26th. September, where they will complete a comprehensive security and First Aid Training (HEFAT) from September 27 to 30. Then, the fellows will leave for nine days of reports in Medellín, Colombia and the surrounding area. The objective of this trip of reports is to generate coverage in the media of the problems reported in Colombia and to promote new narratives in the international media.

Fellows will have the opportunity to establish contacts with other journalists, report in collaboration with their teammates and peers, and gain access to a variety of sources and sites related to their reports. The viability of the trips outside the base location in Colombia will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and will be determined by the IWMF security protocols. Any trip must be within a three-hour radius from the base location. The IWMF organizes trips and logistics in the country for all the fellows. The IWMF also covers costs related to the scholarship as part of the reporting trip, including travel expenses, visas, lodging, meals and interpreters, unless the news organization of a selected journalist wishes to assume these costs. Fellows living outside the US UU They are responsible for obtaining all necessary visas for which they will be reimbursed at the end of the scholarship.

    Eligibility Criteria :

    Journalists can request this scholarship information individually or in pairs. All applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

    • Affiliated or independent journalists who identify women with three (3) or more years of professional experience working in the media. Internships do not count for professional experience.
    • Non-native English speakers must have excellent oral and written English skills in order to fully participate and benefit from the program.
    • The applicant must be able to show proof of interest of an editor or have a proven track record of publication in prominent media.

    Application Process:

    • The IWMF 2019 Medellín, Colombia information grant is open to both individuals and journalists.
    • If applying as a couple, both applicants must meet the eligibility criteria and submit a joint application.
    • If selected, the teams will be offered group interviews.
    • The IWMF strongly recommends team requests that include at least one journalist from Latin America.
    • Each applicant must provide their personal information and work samples, as well as submit a statement of shared interest, story plans, publication plans and support letter.
    • Important: Applications are accepted from June 4 to July 14, 2019 at 11:59 EDT (Washington, DC time).
    • Consider the previous application deadline. Do not follow the counter in Submittable.
