    Eligibility Criteria :

    • Climate Science has two age groups: 14-17 and 18-25. If you are in one of those at the time of registration, they are eligible regardless of nationality or other factors.
    • Both members of a team must be within the same age group at the time of application. They will require proof of age from everyone who makes it to the semi-finals.
    • Both age groups participate in the same Qualifiers and respond to the same type of problem statements. However, Climate Science only compares participants within their age groups. This means that they score the two parentheses independently and normalize them to each other. Semi-finalists, finalists, and finally winners are chosen based on the highest normalized score across all age groups. This ensures a fair comparison regardless of age.

    Benefits :

Here are some of the amazing prizes in the Climate Science Olympiad

Winners: The top 3 teams win US $ 5,000, US $ 3,000, and US $ 2,000, respectively. Prize money is split half or half between the two team members or awarded in full if the winner enters on their own.

Finalists: If there is no more pandemic, finalists will meet in person and attend the “Green Zone” of the United Nations Climate Summit (COP-26) in Glasgow from November 1-12, 2021.

Semifinalists: You are invited to a training group led by climate science to help you prepare for the semifinal and, if you continue, the final.

Climate Science has organized this Olympiad to seek solutions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The Climate Science Olympiad is divided into three phases. These are:

    Qualifiers

    • Compete in teams of 2 (recommended) or on your own. Teams can apply together. Individual applicants, if they so wish, are matched by the organizers with a teammate.
    • In a qualifier, choose one of the three problem statements to answer. To help you prepare, you are informed of issues 10 days before the event, but the exact statement of the issue is only revealed at the beginning of the actual qualifier event.
    • Then you have 3 hours to research (with an Internet connection) and write essay responses to questions related to the problem statement. Climate Science will score each team’s solution. Face-to-face qualifiers are organized locally (for example, on college campuses). Online qualifiers are also held at the regional level.

    Semifinals

    • The top 5% of all qualified entrants advance to the global semifinals. The semifinals are held online.
    • Semifinalists are invited to a community education program that helps them prepare for the semifinal (and final).

    Final

    • If you make it to the final, you’ve basically already won. Why?

Depending on the COVID-19 situation in November 2021, the final will take place in person in Glasgow, UK, or online. If in-person, the finalists will also be invited to the United Nations Climate Summit (COP26) in Glasgow, UK.
