Applications for CatchLight Global Fellowship 2022 are now open. CatchLight Global Fellowship serves as an incubator: a place for innovative leaders in the field of visual storytelling to receive financial support, unlock individual potential, grow, and leverage partnerships.

The fellowship cultivates a vibrant community of creative thought leaders whose work will be enhanced by collaboration, personal development and networking. Its goal is to provide resources and support to all types of visual storytelling leaders who will make a significant impact and care about the sustainability of the field.

    • Open to visual storytelling leaders from around the world. For example, they can be:
    • Organizational leaders working to promote the visual storytelling ecosystem and/or
    • Storytellers who use images to spark new conversations, engage communities, and are poised to be significantly amplified by collaboration, mentorship, and networking and/or
    • Educators supporting the next generation of visual storytellers through innovative approaches.

    Benefits :

    • An award of $30,000 will be distributed during the scholarship year to support fellows and their projects.
    • Fellows will have opportunities for personal and professional development, impact strategy, and networking support from CatchLight staff and the organization’s extended network of partners. They will join a community of like-minded fellows and industry professionals and be exposed to opportunities within the CatchLight network, such as mentoring roles, educational activities, and speaking engagements.
    • Fellows will attend the annual CatchLight visual storytelling summit in San Francisco in the spring of 2023. Other events requiring participation include: an onboarding workshop, a celebration and speaking engagement designed to promote the Fellowship project, and a Community participation. Throughout the fellowship year, fellows attend regular virtual check-ins to stay connected with CatchLight and the fellow community. These logs will serve as an opportunity to share work-in-progress and methodology and receive feedback from peers.

    Application Process:

    • Applicants will submit 20-25 still or visual images, or 15 minutes or less of audio/motion or VR from previous or related work. Images will be 72DPI, 1200 longest edge.
    • Project statement summarizing the project (100 words)
    • Project proposal describing:
      • The work to be done over the course of a 12-month fellowship, how it builds on previous work, and the relevance of this fellowship to further the impact and scope of the work. CatchLight can grant timeline exceptions when warranted.
      • Why this work exemplifies innovative distribution to engage audiences in new and different ways or why this work exemplifies impact in the field of visual storytelling.
      • How this work demonstrates measurable social awareness and commitment.
      • Distribution and/or participation plan (300 words)
        Response to Question: What would you hope to learn from the CatchLight Fellowship and/or network? (100 words)
      • Answer to the question: What would you contribute to the CatchLight network and to the field of visual storytelling in general? (100 words)
      • Three (3) professional references with contact information (no letters of recommendation required).
      • One (1) 60-90 second video describing your scholarship proposal and why it is important to you. Don’t expect big production values; Videos from webcams or mobile phones are recommended.
      • Personal contact information, portfolio links, CV.
      • Compliance with the ethical standards described.
      • All filing requests in English. Please indicate if you used a translation program for your proposal.
