Yale Playwriting Competition 2022

The Yale Playwriting Competition is accepting applications. For its 2022 playwriting competition, the Yale Drama Series is accepting submissions. The current judge for the series, Paula Vogel, will choose the winning play. The winner of this year’s competition will receive the $10,000 David Charles Horn Prize and a manuscript publishing by Yale University Press, and a celebratory event. The playwright must agree to the terms of the publishing agreement to receive the prize and publication.

    Eligibility Criteria :

    Here are the criteria and requirements for the Yale Playwriting Competition:

    • Only plays written by a single playwright are eligible.
    • This competition is all open to plays written in the English language, and submissions from worldwide are welcome.
    • Candidate must submit original, unpublished full-length plays with a minimum of 65 pages.
    • The Yale Drama Series aims to help new writers.
    • Professionally produced or published plays are not eligible. 
    • Playwrights can enter the competition once.
    • Plays with fewer than 65 pages will also be disqualified. Musicals, translations, and children’s plays are not allowed. 
    • Playwrights are only allowed to submit one manuscript annually.
    • Furthermore, plays may not be under option, commissioned, or scheduled for professional production or publishing at submission.
    • Page numbers and typed/word-processed plays are required.
    • For any reason, the Yale Drama Series reserves the right to reject any manuscript.
    • Furthermore, the Yale Drama Series reserves the judge’s discretion not to designate a winner for any given year of the competition.
    • Also, get the right to determine a winner’s ineligibility, in keeping with the spirit of the competition and based on the author’s accomplishments.

    Application Process:

    • Electronic submissions are greatly encouraged for the Yale Drama Series Competition.
    • Candidates will receive quick confirmation of their successful submission and the chance to check the status of their entry if you submit your script online.
    • Please omit your name and contact information from the submission and manuscript file name if you are submitting the play electronically.
    • The play’s title, a 2-3 phrase theme description of the play, a list of characters, and a list of scenes and acts must all appear on the first page of the manuscript.
    • In the electronic submission form, please include the title of the play, the name and contact information, including address, contact info, email address, and a brief biography.
