The University of Western Cape calls for application for the University of Western Cape fellowship 2021. School of Public Health will recruit a full-time Postdoctoral Fellowship from the beginning of September 2021. Fellows will work on three years project for strengthening community engagement in public health research in South Africa. The University of Western Cape is a public research university in Cape Town; it ranks among the top 1000 international universities in the QS World University Rankings.

The university aims to continue the legacy of social justice, community engagement and employability. This fellowship will help in research for advancement in Public Health Sector in South Africa. The University of Western Cape fellowship will contribute towards research and teaching activities.

Fellowship will cover these areas:

  • Evidence synthesis (including systematic qualitative review, narrative review, scoping review, rapid review)
  • Qualitative primary research (including interviews, focus group discussions, participant observation and participatory action research)
  • Implementation science or knowledge translation (including community engagement)
  • Community engagement in research.
  • Fellows will get the opportunity to teach and research in the above-mentioned areas.

    Eligibility Criteria :

    Applicants must meet the specific criteria to apply for the University of Western Cape Fellowship:

    • Applicants have to hold a valid SAQA certificate during application. Moreover, applicants have to complete PhD in the last five years and not hold any permanent academic post.
    • Applicants must have experience and expertise in primary qualitative research and evidence synthesis.
    • Applicants must have research experience and peer-reviewed publications.
    • All are welcome for the application, but preference will proceed with suitably qualified South African citizen or permanent resident.

    • Fellowship will be started from September 2021, ranging between R330000.00 and R370000.00 (tax-free) per annum.
    • Grant writing and project management experience, along with the ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders.
    • Experience in organizing online and face-to-face workshops and engagements.

    Required Documents:

    • The candidate will provide a cover letter along with the motivation for the suitability of the position available.
    • Summary of research interest and how it will advance the candidate. Write up should be completed within one page.
    • CV attach with all-conference attendance, publications and other scholarly research output.
    • Publication record along with writing skills
    • Academic transcript
    • Three referees who have supervised or worked with the candidate and can speak to their experience and skills along with their name and contact details.
