Applications are now open for scholarships for international students in Germany. Evangelische Studienwerk invites international students to apply for PhD scholarships in Germany. Evangelische Studienwerk is the work endowed with the evangelical churches in Germany. Currently, it is supporting almost 1,200 students and around 200 doctoral candidates from all disciplines at universities and technical colleges. Scholars receive a monthly scholarship and access to a comprehensive educational program.

    Eligibility Criteria :

    International students are eligible for doctoral scholarships in Germany if they meet the following formal requirements:

    Membership in a Protestant church (exceptions in justified cases)
    Completion of a first university degree in a short period of time.
    Higher than average performance in studies and exams (final grades at least »good«, in-laws »totally satisfactory«)
    A qualification that entitles you to doctoral studies.
    Foreign students can apply if they have been admitted to a doctoral program at a university in the Federal Republic of Germany

    Benefits :

    Each year Studienwerk supports 200 doctoral students in all kinds of subjects with scholarships and a wide range of educational programs.

    PhDs receive financial aid of 1,350 euros per month plus a book allocation of 100 euros.

    Scholarships are initially awarded for one year. Students can extend the duration of their scholarship upon request. However, it cannot exceed more than three years.

    Here are different documents you need to provide to be eligible for the scholarship

    • Application form (which can be downloaded here)
    • Also, two references from professors or university professors with medical degrees, one of which must be written by your academic supervisor
    • In addition, scheme, concept and timetable of the thesis (max. 15 pages plus bibliography)
    • In addition, a tabular CV and a detailed CV (essay), both signed (max. 2 pages each)
    • Copies of your exit certificates (level A, bachelor’s, master’s, diploma, etc.) with individual grades and general grades
    • Similarly, admission test to a doctoral program
    • Also, informal statement for non-Protestant applicants (explain your interest in Evangelisches Studienwerk and your thoughts on religion and church)
    • Certification of knowledge of the German language at the B2 / DSH level
    • In addition, Declaration if you expect to complete your doctorate abroad

    Applicants must submit all documents in duplicate, printed only on one side in A4 Sheet. Moreover, applicants must send their application to:

    Application processing will require a charge 19. Applicants must transfer this sum to the following account by the end of the application process, stating your full name and the keyword “Processing fee for doctoral support” in the bank remittance:
