Latten Prize 2023 aims to recognize young researchers who are contributing their efforts for human welfare and development. It acknowledges the contribution of researchers in the domains of development, health, the environment, and equality in all aspects of human existence. Applications are now open for The Letten Prize 2023 for Researchers. This international award aims to raise awareness of how research can be used to resolve global challenges.

The Letten Prize is an association between the Letten Foundation and The Young Academy of Norway. This prize aims to raise awareness about solving global human development challenges through research. The Prize of 2.5 mill NOK will be awarded every other year. This prize was initiated in 2018. The Letten Seminar is also hosted in connection with the prize ceremony and is dedicated to the latter aim.

The Letten Foundation was founded by Professor Letten F. Saugstad in 1986. The Letten Foundation promotes basic research, especially in the field of congenital disabilities and specific aspects of mental illness, which increases the knowledge of brain structure and function. This Foundation also prioritizes studies of health effects associated with environmental pollution and other adversities that add to the understanding of man’s relation to his environment. The Letten Foundation gives educational grants, organizes international conferences, and offers awards for outstanding achievements. Researchers can easily apply for this prize. The last date to apply for the Letten Prize for researchers is February 6, 2023.

    Eligibility Criteria for the Letten Prize 2023:

    • Candidates must have researched environmental, health, and equality issues in all aspects of human existence.
    • Candidates should be younger than 45 when the reward is presented.
    • You must thus be younger than 45 years in the year 2023.
    • Minorities and women are urged to apply.
    • The candidate has carried out outstanding research with significant societal impact.
    • Furthermore, it is preferred that the researcher:
    • An excellent communicator.
    • Candidates must have done research that transcends national boundaries.
    • Participate in or with the transdisciplinary study.
    • Researchers in all disciplines are encouraged to apply for the prize.

    Benefits of the Letten Prize 2023

    • The winner will be given the prize money of 2.5 million NOK (about 240 000 EUR/235 000 USD), of which 1/4 is for personal use, and 3/4 is for research-related activity.
    • The Letten Prize will be awarded in Oslo on September 7, 2023. The cost of the candidate’s trip will also be covered.
    • The Letten Prize Committee will benefit the candidate’s future research potential.

     

    Required Documents:

    • Must provide a written report on research activities.
    • Have to submit the “Letten Lecture” presenting the research outcome during an event connected to the 2025 Letten Prize award.
