Applications are open for the Google News Student Fellowship 2022. This fellowship program is offered to support the new generation of European media. Students of high school and fresh graduates can avail this opportunity to work with the European newsroom.

This international fellowship will allow the students to work in any newsroom for 8 weeks. The newsrooms will select students according to their criteria. Fellows are expected to research and write stories to contribute to the projects. Students can either contribute to any of the innovative ongoing projects of the newsroom.

This fellowship will help you learn and build a network. Career enhancing workshops will be held during the fellowship program conducted by experts of European journalists. The Google newsroom aims to build a diverse environment and equity. Hence, people from any background and region are welcome to apply.

    Eligibility Criteria :

    Here are the eligibility criteria for the Google news Student Fellowship:

    • Candidates must be at the age of 18 or above.
    • Enrolled or accepted at any higher education institute.
    • Graduates of the year 2020/2021 are eligible to apply.
    • Candidates must belong or reside in the country they have selected for their newsroom.
    • Applicants must be residing in the same country as the newsroom.
    • They should have a grip on research and writing.

    The Google news Student fellowship offers the following benefits:

    • Selected candidates will get to work for a European newsroom.
    • Students will get paid for their full-time work for 8 weeks.
    • The pay will approximately be €2,500. Pay may vary according to the newsroom.
    • Workshops will be conducted for the students so that they get to learn and enjoy this program.
    • Students will be guided, trained and mentored by the European Journalism Center.
    • Students will be selected depending upon their determination and excitement to join the Google news student fellowship program.
    • Candidates with knowledge of AI design and product and storytelling will be preferred for this fellowship.
    • Each news organization will have further selection criteria. Some may demand the experience of web programming languages like HTML or JavaScript. At the same time, other newsrooms may prefer students with experience of social media publishing.

    Application Process:

    • Interested candidates are requested to start submitting their application before March 15, 2022 (23:59 CET).
    • Students will be selected by May. All candidates will receive a mail informing them about the selection or rejection.
    • There will be an online boot camp in early June by the EJC that will train the students for the upcoming fellowship.
    • Students will then join their respective newsrooms in June for 8 weeks.
    • Some fellowship may extend to autumn depending upon the decision of the newsroom and EJC.
