Queen’s SARS CoV-2 / COVID-19 Research Funding Contest is a $ 200,000 deputy director (research) initiative to fund and support research projects that will contribute to urgent efforts to accelerate the development, testing and implementation of medical countermeasures or social to mitigate the rapid spread of the SARS CoV-2 virus and its negative consequences on individuals and communities in Canada and around the world.

To a large extent, this opportunity reflects the recent SARS CoV-2 / COVID-19 funding opportunity available through CIHR and will support research in all disciplines: health sciences; natural sciences and engineering; and social sciences and humanities.

    • May 15, 2020 – Full applications due

    Eligibility Criteria :

    • Principal Investigators must be Queen’s tenured, full-time, or clinical professors with protected research time.
    • Co-investigators must make a faculty appointment at Queen’s.
    • Other members of the team may be Queen Research Professors, Senior Lecturers or Clinicians with protected research time, adjuncts, research associates, students, postdoctoral fellows, etc.
    • Researchers from other institutions can participate in a project and can be listed as team members, but they are not eligible to apply, neither they nor their institutions will receive funds.
    • An investigator can apply as a principal investigator in a single competition application and can apply only once as a co-investigator or team member by competition.
    • In Competition 1, researchers can apply once as the principal investigator and once as a co-investigator or team member.
    • Investigators can also apply to Competition 2, once as Principal Investigator and once as Co-investigator or team member. If an investigator is awarded funds in Competition 1 as Principal Investigator, they are not eligible to apply as Principal Investigator in Competition 2.

      Funded projects will find a balance between research on medical and social / political countermeasures, based on the number of proposals received in each category.
    • Money:
      $ 10,000- $ 50,000 per project (total available is $ 200,000)
    • Eligible expenses:
      All expenses directly related to research are eligible with the exception of equipment purchases and teaching permit allocation.
