    Eligibility Criteria :

    Here are the eligibility criteria for the CBC Entrepreneurial Fellows Award 2023:

    • Candidates must be recent recipients of PhD, MS, MD/PhD and PharmD/PhD or should have completed an initial postdoc degree in biomedical sciences (biophysics, molecular biology, biology, chemical biology, chemistry and other similar fields), along with a strong desire for leading revolutionary and innovative biomedical researches from universities to clinical applications and eventually, to commercial applications.

    • Thorough interest in translational research, with a focus on developing associated diagnostics, therapeutics, and biomarkers.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as a set of impeccable analytical skills

    • They must be able to work in an independent environment, direct themselves in a particular direction, and be efficient team members.
    • Moreover, they must be familiar with the biotech business and the fundamentals of the initial development stages of drugs.
    • It is desirable if the applicant is familiar with contemporary drug development. However, a keen interest in gaining further exposure is essential.

    Requirements for CBC Entrepreneurial Fellows Award:

    CBC fellows must comply with the following criterion:

    1. Support recognition as well as the management of research programs at UIC, UChicago and NU, which are full of commercial potential.
    2. They must play a primary role in developing, revising and implementing CBC-funded awards, which are concentrated on translational research. These researches include:
    • Develop and perfect proposals received from the faculty of the university.
    • Collect and analyze data that support unmet medical needs.
    • Develop a work plan to advance science towards pre-clinical proof of concept while analyzing the risks of drug development.

     

    Role of CBC Fellows:

    1. Work with the university investigators of CBC in formulating proposals with the translational potential to CBC Award programs alongside other organizations that will provide funding.
    2. Collaborate on projects funded by Deerfield Management via West Loop Innovations (UIC) and Lakeside Discovery (NU) to speed up the translation of biomedical technology transfer.
    3. Discuss project reviews of intellectual property with Tech Transfer staff and the Office of Sponsored Research to produce resultant reports on the status of patents and potential constraints.
    4. Cooperate with the members of the project team in order to ensure that the project plan covers all necessary requirements for the documentation of toxicology, manufacturing of clinical candidates and drug safety.
    5. Nurture a culture of drug discovery at all CBC universities by actively engaging in events, review panels, workshops and symposiums sponsored by the CBC.
    6. The fellows will be familiarized with all aspects of discovering and developing drugs, such as:
    7. Develop competitive positioning and investment thesis.
    8. Developing durable project plans, budgets, timelines, resource allocation, regulatory strategy, clinical strategy, competitive landscape analysis and project mitigation plans.

    • Fill out the CBC Fellows Award application form carefully.
    • Attach the following documents:
    1. Cover Letter (two pages max) that must include the answer to the following questions 1) Why Bio/biotech entrepreneurship? 2) Why Chicagoland? 3) How will CBC Fellowship help you in your career goals? 4) Name of Faculty adviser and thesis project. Mention your graduation date along with your availability to start the fellowship.
    2. CV
    • Prove the names, contact information, and titles of 3 references for provision recommendation letters.
    • Assemble all these materials into a single PDF in the given order. Name the PDF with your last and first name e.g. Last_First.pdf. Candidates should write all the documents in 11 font size, standard letter size i.e. 8.5” x 11”, 0.5-inch margins, single-spaced.
