The applications are now open for the Council of Europe’s World Forum for Democracy 2019.
The World Forum for Democracy is a unique platform for policy makers and activists to discuss solutions to key challenges for democracies around the world. By identifying and analyzing the initiatives and experimental practices, the Forum highlights and encourages the innovations of grassroots democracy and its transfer at a systemic level to strengthen the foundations of democratic societies. The Forum thus contributes to the evolution of democracy towards more participatory and inclusive structures and institutions.
.
“Democracy and information” is the theme of the World Forum for Democracy in 2019 with two main themes:
Democracy dies in the dark: are we getting the information we need?
Information and the future: lost in space or teachers of our own destiny?
The questions we must address in 2019 are to what extent the information is reliable, if this helps or hinders the participation of citizens in democratic processes, and what lessons we must learn to guarantee the free flow of information in the future.
The central content of the Forum will consist of discussions on initiatives and successful actions, which have real-life initiatives as a starting point. The general guiding principles will then be developed to encourage and support future policy responses and field action.
In this context, the Council of Europe Youth Department will invite between 50 and 60 young people to participate and participate with decision-makers and opinion makers in a reflection on the question of democracy and information.
Deadline is July 12, 2019
