This is a general call for internships throughout 2019. Applications from interested and qualified applicants will be accepted on an ongoing basis for this communications internship at our New York headquarters.

The United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) intends to be a solid knowledge center that provides advisory and consulting services to Member States and United Nations entities on South-South and triangular cooperation that allows Developing countries effectively face their main development challenges. and take advantage of global opportunities to address along with monitoring progress in the implementation of the Buenos Aires Action Plan, the New Directions Strategy and the Nairobi Outcome.

UNOSSC collaborates with Member States around the world, at the regional level and within the United Nations system to facilitate practical expressions of solidarity from the South towards the achievement of internationally agreed development goals. UNOSSC works with a wide range of partners, including global centers of excellence, to intensively explore how endogenous capacity development will be promoted, how technological advances in the global South will be systematically expanded and shared, and how the mechanisms of development can be exploited. Innovative emerging financing through SouthSouth and triangular cooperation. UNOSSC guarantees that our southern constituencies have timely access to high-quality analytical planning, mapping, programming and reporting on data, trends and opportunities that will drive South-South and triangular cooperation in ways that ensure success.

UNOSSC has established an internship program for young professionals interested in strengthening their understanding of the United Nations, UNOSSC, their mandate, mission and their work within and outside the United Nations system. The UNOSSC internship program provides professional enrichment for young professionals, improving their leadership and professional skills, as well as expanding their global perspectives.

The UNOSSC digital communications intern is responsible for developing high impact communications materials for the office. This internship requires strategic thinking with the ability to deliver high quality and well written materials that invite reflection under pressure and tight deadlines.

    Eligibility Criteria :


    • Qualified / appropriate intern in the field of communication for development, journalism, communications, sustainable development, social sciences or field related to the following academic qualifications:
    • Enrolled in a graduate program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
    • Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree (minimum level of baccalaureate or equivalent).
    • He graduated with a university degree as defined above and, if selected, must begin the internship within one year after graduation.


    • Communications experience is required.
    • Desirable experience creating content for the web and / or managing different media platforms.
    • Experience with desirable photo and video editing.
    • Familiar with international development / desirable relationships.
    • Familiarity with the United Nations system in general and / or with South-South development cooperation in particular is an advantage.


    • Ability in English
    • Knowledge of the other five official languages ​​of the United Nations (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) will be valued.



    • Internships within the UN system are not remunerated and are subject to conditions with which applicants must familiarize themselves before signing an internship agreement.
    • UNOSSC accepts no responsibility for the medical and life insurance of the intern or the costs derived from accidents and diseases incurred during an internship.
    • All expenses related to the internship will be borne by the intern, the government or the sponsoring institutions.
    • The purpose of the internship program is not to generate more employment within the United Nations system, but to complement the studies of an intern. Therefore, there should be no job expectations at the end of an internship.

    • Pre-selected candidates for an interview must submit the following documents before the interview:
      Official letter from the University confirming enrollment in a postgraduate program.
    • Only a selected candidate must submit the following nine documents:
      • A completed UNDP internship application form (available on the official link).
      • A copy of the applicant’s most recent curriculum vitae.
      • A letter from your university confirming current enrollment and graduation date.
      • A copy of your school transcript.
      • A letter of recommendation from a teacher.
      • An internship agreement signed by UNDP.
      • A medical certificate of good health.
      • Proof of medical insurance, including provision for medical evacuation and disposal of mortal remains or life insurance.
      • Copy of passport and work visa for the United States.
