The Heroes of Tomorrow: UN SDG Action Awards honours impactful projects and individuals using creativity and innovation to drive progress towards a more just, peaceful and sustainable world. Through these international awards, the program will spotlight heroes of tomorrow. Each year, a panel of judges and technical experts review more than 5,500 entries from 190 countries to select the finalists and award recipients. This program by the United Nations is open to applicants from around the world with different backgrounds.

The SDG Action Awards aim to inspire others to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and showcase their campaigns or initiatives. Similarly, the United Nations SDG Action Awards will invite finalists to an inspiring global ceremony that honours winners through music, art and powerful messages from diverse global leaders. Therefore, making it a fantastic opportunity. The United Nations Award is available across three categories. This includes the Creativity Award, Resilience Award and the Changemaker Award.  Finalists will attend the UN SDG Action Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, 29 October in Rome, Italy. Finalists and winners will gain worldwide recognition and exposure for their initiatives and receive a prestigious trophy. Finalist teams will participate in the Heroes of Tomorrow: UN SDG Action Awards Ceremony and the Finalist Induction Programme. One representative from each selected initiative will be invited to take part in a one-day induction program that includes interactive workshops, skill-building activities and valuable networking sessions followed by the award ceremony.     Eligibility Criteria for United Nations SDG Action Awards 2025:

    • The awards are open to applicants from around the world.
    • Applicants can either apply directly with campaigns and initiatives or self-nominate outstanding individuals.
    • Similarly, only campaigns or initiatives that have shown measurable impact within the last three years and fit into one of the 2025 award categories are eligible.
    • Initiatives or projects still in the planning or development stage will not be accepted.
    • Projects led by national governments or UN entities may only be acknowledged with honourable mentions and will not qualify for finalist or winner status.
    • Moreover, previous finalists and winners of the UN SDG Action Awards are not eligible to reapply.

    Judging Criteria:

    • Impact: the measurable impact of the initiative or campaign in meeting the SDGs.
    • Novelty/innovation: the uniqueness of the initiative
    • Scalability/replicability: the potential of the campaign or initiative to be scaled up and replicated
