Ujala African Scholars Program 2025

The Ujala African Scholars Program invites African scholars to lead rigorous and impactful evaluation in agriculture across the globe. This African scholars’ program is designed for critical thinkers to showcase their evaluations and large-scale impact on agriculture. This funded scholars’ program offers training and mentorship for individuals to demonstrate their work and gain hands-on experience. This mentorship program also offers funding for researchers who hold a PhD degree in economics or a related field of study. Similarly, this funded research is offered to both residents and non-resident African Scholars whose work aligns with UJALAโ€™s research agenda on agricultural development. You must be willing to show innovation and large-scale impact on agriculture. If you are a researcher and willing to contribute your analytical skills, then this research program is for you.

The UJALA will officially launch the UJALA African Scholars Program during an in-person event at the University Mohammed VI Polytechnic. This event will present the programโ€™s goals, structure and opportunities for African Scholars interested in conducting high-quality impact evaluations. If you are interested to present agricultural problems and contribute to large scale impacts.

The UJALA African Scholars Program offers growth opportunities and a chance to gain in-depth knowledge about agricultural work. You will get a detailed overview of the program structure, eligibility, mentorship model and placement opportunities. You will get networking opportunities with faculty, students and partner institutions. Moreover, during the first phase of the program, some scholars might be recommended to complete one or two courses from the Data, Economics, and Design of Policy MicroMasters (DEDP). If you are new to impact evaluation or need updated key concepts, then this paid research will provide you with key concept. All scholars will have an excellent opportunity to cover course fees, either for taking additional courses or for completing the full MicroMasters on their choice.

You will also be required to participate in a practical workshop, designed to guide you through the full process of developing a pilot proposal. The scholars will be able to work through an evaluation case, draft a full proposal and budget sheet, and receive simulated review comments. The mentorship session of this UJALA African Scholars Program pairs each funded scholar with a J-PAL affiliated or invited researcher. For more details about this African scholarship, read below.

    Benefits of UJALA African Scholars Program:

    • All scholars will be provided training and mentorship.
    • All scholars will have the opportunity to request funding to cover course fees, either for taking additional courses or for completing the full MicroMasters if they wish.
