The Rhodes Scholarship in partnership with the Saïd Foundation for Syria is open now for Syrians, Palestinians, Jordanians and Lebanese.

There are two Rhodes Scholarships offered from Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, or Palestine each year. The Scholarships for SJLP were announced in 2016 and the first Scholars arrived in October 2017.

The Rhodes Scholarship Program is the oldest international scholarship program (established in 1903) in the world and one of the most prestigious. Administered by the Rhodes Trust in Oxford, the program offers 100 fully funded scholarships for postgraduate study each year at the University of Oxford in the UK – one of the world’s leading universities. The Rhodes Scholarships are for young leaders of exceptional intelligence and character, motivated to tackle global challenges, committed to serving others, and promising to become leaders of values ​​and principles for the future of the world.

The basic duration of the scholarship is two years, always subject to satisfactory academic performance and personal conduct. In some cases, at the discretion of the Rhodes Trust Academic Committee and Rhodes Trustees, scholarship holders may apply for the third year of scholarship to complete the DPhil.

    Eligibility Criteria :

    Nationality / Citizenship: to apply for this program A person must be Syrian, Jordanian, Lebanese, or Palestinian national , or you must be a legal permanent / temporary resident in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, or Palestine National.


    Education / Residency: You must have received at least five years of study in Syria *, Jordan, Lebanon, West Bank, Gaza, or Israel. *
    Age: as of October 1 of the year in which you are applying, you must meet one of the criteria below:
    You must be at least 18 years old and not have reached your 24th birthday (i.e., you must have been born after October 1, 1996 and no later than October 1, 2002)
    .OR (for older applicants who obtained their first undergraduate degree later than usual)
    You must not have reached your 27th Age(i.e., born after October 1, 1993), and EITHER you have met or will meet the requirements. For obtaining your first undergraduate degree on or after October 1, 2019, * OR the national context has disrupted your undergraduate studies, extending the time needed to graduate **.
    * A university’s policy determines when a degree is considered awarded. In ambiguous cases, the decision of the national secretary is final.
    ** These will be considered on a case by case basis, you should be in contact with the National Secretary in case of doubt.
    Academic Achievement: You must have completed (or will have completed by June 30, 2021) an undergraduate degree from a college or university (normally a bachelor’s degree) at a sufficiently high standard to be admitted to postgraduate studies at Oxford University. In this regard, please carefully note the requirements of the course you have chosen at Oxford.
    English language: You must have a sufficiently high level of English and have met the English proficiency requirements for IELTS / TOEFL by the application deadline.
    If you fail on your first Rhodes Scholarship application, then you will only be able to apply once more (and this must be in the same constituency), subject to meeting the eligibility criteria.

    Application Process:

    You can apply online from June 1, 2020 at http://www.rhodeshouse.ox.ac.uk/scholarships/apply through the Scholarships tab.
    You must submit your online application, along with all supporting documents, by 11:59 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) on August 31, 2020.
    In preparation for your application, you should carefully read the general information, especially that contained in the Scholarships tab, on the Rhodes website, the Rhodes Scholarship Terms of Reference, the information in this document and the pages of admission to graduate studies at the University. from Oxford: www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/graduate.
    Candidates on the list may be invited to attend a preliminary interview on Skype in early October.
    Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a social engagement (a reception and dinner the day before the interviews) and a final interview. You must be available to attend both in person.

    A head and shoulders color photograph (jpg format).
    A personal statement of no more than 1000 words.
