PyeongChang Youth Peace Challenge 2022

Opportunities Circle is here with another competition opportunity for youth, “Youth Peace Challenge” is offered by Pyeong Chang Peace Forum for 2022. This program is related to peace and global citizenship education. Youth indulge themselves in peace-building and peace-making tasks introduced by the UN Declaration. Therefore PyeongChang Youth Peace Challenge YPC 2022 decided to provide youth with different knowledge-gaining opportunities. These knowledge-gaining opportunities will help the youth gain knowledge and skills; also share their experience about advertising peace-building and peace-making in various sectors of life.

The challenge includes essay writing competition and global debate. The main aim of this international challenge is to enable the youth to explain the peace viewpoint of their country and/or internationally according to the UN Secretary-General’s proposal. YPC is divided into two main sectors:

  • Essay contest and group debate.
  • The contestants selected in the essay contest will shortly be invited to take part in an online group debate.

    Eligibility Criteria :

    Here are the eligibility criteria for the youth peace challenge:

    • Candidates from all countries can apply.
    • Candidates must be 14 to 27 year-olds
    • An essay should be between 3,000 to 4,000 words.
    • The essay should be written in the English language.

    Youth Peace Challenge offers the following benefits:

    The perks will be awarded to a maximum of 10 winners of the YPC 2022 for putting in their efforts, and meeting the proposal’s requirement would be appreciated. Each winner will be awarded the following perks.

    • Grand Prize of $2,000.
    • 1st Prize is worth $1,500.
    • $1,000 USD as 2nd Prize (3 people/teams)
    • 3rd Prize: $500 (4 individuals/teams)

    Rule and regulations for Debate group:

    • The duration of the group debate will be 100 minutes.
    • Teams will be divided into 2 or 4 groups for group discussion.
    • There will be two rounds; in the first round participants will come up with the essay’s contents, and then in a second (final) round, participants will talk about the main topic.
    • The time frame for the datable: Introduction (2 minutes), opening statement (5 minutes per team), Question and answer with the panel of judges, and closing statement (3 minutes per each).

     

    Guiding Questions for Essay Writing:

    • What made candidates join the YPC 2022 (no more than 400 words).
    • Why does the Our Common Agenda report matter to candidates as youth? (300 to 400 words)
    • Identify the issues and proposals relevant and important for candidates in terms of peace-building, and describe what kinds of activities they have engaged in till application? (1,000 to 1,200 words)
    • Can youth do more and better to promote peace and the UN Sustainable Development Goals in their country and/or internationally? (450 to 600 words)
    • What are the significant challenges in implementing the proposals in the OCA report (450 to 600 words)?
    • What would you like to propose to your government, UN and other stakeholders to promote peace with the OCA report and the UN SDGs (500 to 800 words).
