Eligibility Criteria :

Eligibility Criteria for Miles Morland Writing Scholarships 2026:

The scholarships are open to writers born in Africa or with both parents born in Africa.

Applicants must submit a previously published excerpt of their work, written in English, between 2000 to 5000 words.

The submitted work must have been both published and made available for sale.

Academic, scientific, religious, or political works are not eligible for the Miles Morland scholarship.

Similarly, scholars are required to submit at least 10,000 new words each month during the scholarship period.

Candidates must also submit a book description of 400 to 1000 words outlining their intended project.

The proposed project must be a new, full-length book of at least 80,000 words, written in English.

It is not a residential scholarship. Applicants are free to decide their living arrangements during the scholarship year.

Moreover, the scholarship does not support collaborative works or short story collections.

The proposal must be for a new project, not an existing work in progress and should be in the English language.

The scholarship only accepts proposals for full-length adult fiction or non-fiction books. Poetry, plays, film scripts, children’s books, and short story collections are not eligible.
