Applications are open for the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program 2025 in the USA. Global UGRAD is a one-semester non-degree academic study exchange program in the United States for a broad group of emerging student leaders. This exchange scholarship is entirely funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and attempts to recruit participants from underrepresented backgrounds who have not had previous opportunities to study in the U.S. Furthermore, students will gain a deep understanding of American society, culture, and academic institutions, as well as opportunities to improve their professional abilities.

Selected candidates of the U.S. Global Undergraduate Exchange Program for international students will be placed in different host universities for full-time, non-degree undergraduate coursework chosen from the existing curriculum. To improve their awareness of the United States, participants will be required to take one 3-credit U.S. studies course. Participants in the U.S. Global Exchange program 2025 will share campus housing with American peers and must complete twenty hours of community service.

    Eligibility Criteria for the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program 2025 in USA:

    • Applicants must be at least 18 years old by August 2025 to be eligible for the undergraduate exchange program.
    • Students must be citizens of one of the UGRAD participating countries and should reside there.
    • Students must be enrolled in full-time undergraduate programs and have completed at least their first semester. They must be enrolled in a well-accredited university, public or private. After completing the US exchange program, they have at least one year remaining in their home country to be eligible for the Global Undergraduate program 2025.
    • Applicants for the Global undergraduate exchange program must have completed their secondary education in the country where they live (home country).
    • Applicants should display leadership potential through academic achievement, community involvement, and extracurricular activities.
    • Furthermore, students must have a solid command of written and spoken English. (If required, English Language training for some fellows is possible).
    • Applicants without experience in the United States or outside their home countries will be prioritized.
    • International students must return to their native country immediately after completing the fully funded scholarship program.
    • Applicants must be physically fit and cleared by a physician to participate in this Global exchange program.
    • Applicants must be eligible to obtain a J-1 visa (U.S. student exchange visa.
    • Applicants must be able to begin their studies in the USA.

    Not eligible for the UGRAD Exchange Program 2025:

    • Permanent residents of the USA and citizens of the United States
    • Individuals currently studying, residing, or working in a country other than participating countries.
    • Individuals currently participating in training, academic, or research programs in the USA.
    • Individuals who have applied for USA permanent residency in the last three years.
    • Local personnel at U.S. embassies in other countries who work for the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) are also ineligible for one year after their job ends.
    • Individuals who have participated in any US government-funded programs (exchange programs) for over six weeks and have not fulfilled their two-year home residency requirement by the application deadline.
    • Immediate family members (spouses and children) of workers of the U.S. Department of State and USAID; family members are also disqualified for one year after employment ends.
    • Employees of non-profit organizations (World Learning) who administer the Undergraduate Exchange Program on behalf of the US Department of State and their families.
