Opportunities Circle is here with the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Georg Forster Research Award 2022. Nominations for this award are open for the year 2022. International researchers from developing and emerging countries are eligible to apply for this program. Alexander von Humboldt Foundation selects six internationally recognized researchers to give Georg Forster Research Awards. The award winners will receive an amount of up to €60,000. Moreover, they may also conduct research in Germany for 12 months.

This international research award seeks international researchers who develop research-based solutions to problems in their countries of origin. The research award is named after distinguished German ethnologist Georg Forster. The award in Germany is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Furthermore, through this research award, candidates can receive cooperation from specialist colleagues in Germany. They may also provide an additional €25,000 to support academic collaboration. Researchers working to improve their respective countries’ living conditions are encouraged to apply for this award. The last date to send nominations for this award is 31 October 2022.     Eligibility Criteria :

    Following are the eligibility criteria for the Georg Forster Research Award 2022:

    Nominator:

    • Researchers at research institutions in Germany can also send nominations.
    • Award winners of the Humboldt Foundation working abroad are also eligible to send nominations with a researcher working in Germany.

    Nominees:

    Interested researchers who have developed research-based solutions for their countries and will continue to contribute to tackling the challenges faced by developing and emerging countries are eligible for nominations. Individual nominations must meet the following criteria:

    • The academic achievements of the nominees must be internationally recognized and proven by successes in research.
    • The nominee should not have received an award from Humboldt Foundation for their academic work.
    • Also, they should be a developing or emerging country citizen by the OECD (excluding PR China and India).
    • Nominees have lived and worked in these countries for at least five years at the time of the nomination.
    • Neither self-nominations are allowed, nor can you nominate close relatives or martial/registered partners.
    • Nominations of qualified female researchers are encouraged.

    Georg Forster Research Award provides the following benefits:

    • Winners will receive the amount of €60,000.
    • Also, they will get a chance to conduct a research project of their own choice at a research institute in Germany with specialist colleagues. You can stay between 6 months and a full year through this award (which can be split into multiple stays).
    • Additional funding up to €25,000 to finance the academic collaboration.
    • It will cover the costs of attending academic conferences, material resources like high-quality literature or scientific tools at the home institution, or including junior researchers.
    • The winners will also get to attend events or the chance to participate in language courses.
    • The nominee must have outstanding global recognition as a researcher.
    • Research findings must have an evident impact beyond the immediate field of work.
    • The significance of awarding a research prize in relation to the developmental relevance of the research (UN Sustainable Development Goals can serve as a point of reference).
    • The nominee has shown a multiplier effect in research, teaching and science management, and other development-related processes outside the research field.
