application are open for  Geneva Challenge 2019 The 2019 Advanced Development Goals International Student Contest invites Master teams from all academic programs to design innovative and pragmatic solutions for the Global Health Challenges.

Eager to stimulate reflection and innovation in development from diverse disciplinary and contextual perspectives and with the generous support of Ambassador Jenö Staehelin, the Graduate Institute launched the Advances in Development Goals Contest in 2014, an international competition for students graduates

The idea is to gather contributions that are theoretically based and that offer pragmatic solutions to a relevant international development problem derived from an interdisciplinary collaboration between 3 to 5 masters students enrolled from anywhere in the world.

    Eligibility Criteria :

    Participants of ADG 2019 must be registered as graduates at the time of their inscription in the contest. They consider that the “graduate students” are people enrolled in a graduate university program with a maximum duration of 2 (two) years, or anyone who is studying to obtain a master’s degree.
    Participants must meet in teams of 3 (three) to 5 (five) graduate students. In the presented analysis, they must contribute with an interdisciplinary approach or from at least 2 (two) different disciplinary perspectives. No participation will be admitted individually. Participants can enroll in the same graduate program or collaborate with students from other university programs in which they are enrolled or coordinate with students from different universities and institutions around the world.
    The category in which the team will be located for the contest will be based on the continent of the predominantly represented universities within the team. In case there is an equitable representation of the continents within the team, the team decides in which category they want to compete.
    All team members must provide a scanned copy of a document that serves as proof of enrollment as a graduate student before enrollment in the team can be confirmed and validated.
    Any official document issued by the academic institution to which the student is affiliated is accepted as proof of enrollment as long as it contains:
    a) The name of the student;
    b) The program in which you are enrolled;
    c) A date of issue up to three months before the date of registration or
    d) Validity beyond the registration date.
    Exceptionally, the organizer can accept the registration of students who are transitioning to graduate studies, as long as they have already been accepted into a graduate student program at the time of enrollment.

    The bidding of ADG distributes CHF 25’000 in monetary prizes. The winning project will be awarded CHF 10’000; the two teams in second place will receive CHF 5’000 each and the two teams in third place, CHF 2’500 each.

    Applicants’ applications will be evaluated by an interdisciplinary academic steering committee that will select 3 presentations per category to be published on the competency website and then reviewed by an independent jury of experts with academic, governmental and private sector backgrounds.

    Five finalist teams will be invited, one team per continent (travel and accommodation expenses will be covered) to an oral presentation in Geneva, where they will defend their ideas and answer questions from the jury and the public. The finalists will also be present at an awards ceremony where the results of the contest will be announced preceded by a high-level discourse on the challenges of global health.
