It is a unique training program for young graduates and professionals from Africa who are passionate about the sustainability of African biodiversity. The international fellowship program aims to educate and develop the skills of young professionals who possess a strong interest in policymaking, specifically focusing on biodiversity governance within Africa. The Young African Policy Fellows Program by Charles R. Wall is a nine-month fellowship administered by the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). This fellowship in Africa also aligns with the goals of the African Union Agenda 2063, known as “The Africa We Want,” thus highlighting the significance of nature and biodiversity in promoting sustainable development across the continent. Moreover, the main objective of Charles R. Wall Young African Policy Fellows Program is to form a group of young professionals who are enthusiastic about International Biodiversity Governance. It is a fully funded program that provides full financial coverage and several other benefits to all Young African Fellows. Similarly, the Charles R. Wall Fellowship Program requires its fellows to play a vital role in shaping policies, participating in negotiations, and engaging in the evaluation processes at various levels, including the national, regional, and international arenas. This nine-month fellowship offers a blended learning experience that includes several modules, such as workshops for knowledge development, intentional networking activities, and hands-on learning through simulations and involvement in international policymaking processes. This African fellowship in 2025 consists of monthly sessions along with leadership dialogues, hence combining theoretical application with practical understanding.

Wall Young African Policy Fellows Program in 2025 will select 15 fellows and offer them training.     • The Young African Policy Fellowship 2025 is open to individuals from any African country currently living and working within the continent.

    • Candidates should have at least two years of experience in conservation or biodiversity management gained through employment, activism, or volunteering.
    • Successful applicants must commit to attending the entire course while being available for travel to policy conferences and providing support to negotiators when applicable.
