Eligibility Criteria :

Are you interested in applying for a fully funded master’s scholarship to study abroad? Check the ADB-JSP AIT Scholarship Program criteria and requirements before starting the application.

Eligibility Criteria for the AIT Asian Development Bank Scholarship 2026:

Applicants must be citizens of ADB borrowing member countries; therefore, applicants from countries that are no longer borrowing from ADB are not eligible.

Additionally, applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with a superior academic record.

Moreover, candidates must have at least two (2) years of full-time professional working experience, acquired after completing their university degree, at the time of application.

Furthermore, applicants must be proficient in written and spoken English to pursue their studies successfully.

Applicants must also be under 35 years old at the time of application; however, in exceptional cases, programs designed for senior officials and managers allow an age limit of 45.

In addition, applicants must be in good health.

Scholars must agree to return to their home country after completing their studies under the program.

Importantly, Executive Directors, Alternate Directors, management and staff of ADB, consultants, and their relatives are not eligible.

Similarly, staff of AIT cannot apply for this scholarship.

Applicants who live or work in a country other than their home country are not eligible.

Students already enrolled in a graduate program cannot apply.

Finally, the ADB-JSP does not sponsor undergraduate studies, distance learning, short-term training, seminars, conferences, thesis writing, or research projects.

Selection Criteria

Priority is given based on the ranking or order of merit proposed by AIT.

Moreover, applicants with less than two years of work experience will not be selected.

In addition, preference is given to women candidates.

Furthermore, the international scholarship program favors applicants with lower financial capacity; specifically, family income should not exceed USD 50,000 per year, and individual income should not exceed USD 25,000 per year.

The program generally does not support applicants who have previously studied abroad or those pursuing a second MA.

Similarly, candidates applying at a Designated Institute (DI) in their own country may not be selected.

Additionally, the program considers diversification of nationality at both the overall program and DI levels.

Benefits of the AIT ABD Scholarship 2026

First of all, the scholarship covers tuition fees based on the actual costs of the program at the Designated Institute (DI).
In addition, it provides housing, either in dormitories or a reasonable allowance for off-campus accommodation.
Moreover, scholars receive a subsistence allowance, which includes housing, provided as a flat allowance agreed upon with the DI.
Furthermore, the program includes student medical and accident insurance, offered as a flat allowance for the duration of the scholarship.
Additionally, scholars receive a books allowance to cover necessary academic materials.
For travel, economy-class air travel is funded from the scholar’s home country to the DI and back, based on actual costs.
Also, the scholarship covers miscellaneous travel expenses, including visa fees, airport taxes, and luggage allowance.
Likewise, excess luggage up to 20 kilograms during return travel to the home country is covered at actual cost.
Importantly, scholars are granted a thesis/research allowance to pay for photocopying, school supplies, local travel, and accommodation for out-of-town research trips.
Finally, if additional training is necessary, the scholarship covers language or computer training required for the study program, based on actual costs.
However, the scholarship does not cover expenses for the scholar’s family, extra-curricular courses, additional travel, supplementary educational materials, or workshops.

Required Documents for the AIT Japan scholarship progam

Copy of degree certificate and transcript of a four-year undergraduate program.

English proficiency score as required by AIT Language Center (IELTS-Academic: 6 writing and overall, TOEFL ≥ 550, or AIT EET ≥ 6.0).

Work experience certificate provided by the employer.

Income statement (spouse income if married, otherwise parent income statement).

Completed ADB-JSP information sheet.

Policies and Procedures

Scholarships are awarded only to the scholar and do not cover dependents.

DIs may provide tuition fee discounts to outstanding scholars, as agreed with ADB.

Preparatory/bridging courses (English or computer literacy) can be funded within AIT.

Subsistence allowances are usually given monthly but may follow DI practice.

Air travel reimbursement occurs upon successful completion of studies.

An establishment allowance may be provided once at the start of the scholarship.

The ADB-JSP stipend supplements other financial support and may be partially or fully withdrawn if other sources are confirmed.

Terms of Awards

Scholarships are for one to two years and offered at designated institutions in the Asia and Pacific region.

Studies in economics, business, management, science and technology, and other development-related fields are eligible.

Maximum scholarship duration is two years for MA, MS, and MBA programs.

Renewal of Scholarships

Initial period is one year; renewal for a second year depends on satisfactory performance.

Extension beyond two years is generally not allowed.

Scholarships may be suspended up to 12 months for valid reasons (health, family).

ADB reviews total number of awards yearly and approves new scholars when incumbent scholars complete or withdraw.

Deferment, Replacement, and Transfer

Deferment may be granted up to six months for valid reasons (e.g., pregnancy, family issues, visa delays).

Replacement of dropouts during the academic year is not allowed.

Transfer from one course or institution to another is not allowed.

Special Conditions

Scholars must commit to return and work in their home countries for at least two years after graduation.

Scholars must acknowledge employment restriction policies and cannot work at ADB for two years after graduation.

Termination of Scholarships

Scholarships may be terminated for unsatisfactory academic progress, legal violations, misconduct, or breach of ADB-JSP or student visa conditions.

Application Process:

Applicants should first request information and application forms from their chosen Designated Institute (DI), such as AIT.

Next, applicants must inform AIT that they are applying for admission and wish to be considered for the ADB-JSP Scholarship.

Then, submit the completed DI application form along with all required documentation, including the ADB-JSP Information Sheet.

It is essential to ensure that all documentation is accurate and complete, as incomplete or false information may lead to disqualification or termination of the award.

Additionally, applicants must submit their latest Income Tax Return or a certification of annual/monthly salary, as well as a certification of family income.

After submission, AIT will screen and rank all applicants based on the selection criteria and eligibility requirements, and it may request additional information if necessary.

Following this, AIT submits the ranked list to ADB, which recommends the awardees to the Executive Director of Japan for formal approval.

Upon receiving approval, ADB informs AIT, and AIT notifies the successful candidates while arranging the scholarship acceptance process.

Scholars must then sign an Acceptance of Scholarship Award, committing to return to their home country after completing their studies.

Finally, ADB will send a congratulatory letter to each selected scholar.
