    Benefits of the AIT ABD Scholarship 2026

    • First of all, the scholarship covers tuition fees based on the actual costs of the program at the Designated Institute (DI).

    • In addition, it provides housing, either in dormitories or a reasonable allowance for off-campus accommodation.

    • Moreover, scholars receive a subsistence allowance, which includes housing, provided as a flat allowance agreed upon with the DI.

    • Furthermore, the program includes student medical and accident insurance, offered as a flat allowance for the duration of the scholarship.

    • Additionally, scholars receive a books allowance to cover necessary academic materials.

    • For travel, economy-class air travel is funded from the scholarโ€™s home country to the DI and back, based on actual costs.

    • Also, the scholarship covers miscellaneous travel expenses, including visa fees, airport taxes, and luggage allowance.

    • Likewise, excess luggage up to 20 kilograms during return travel to the home country is covered at actual cost.

    • Importantly, scholars are granted a thesis/research allowance to pay for photocopying, school supplies, local travel, and accommodation for out-of-town research trips.

    • Copy of degree certificate and transcript of a four-year undergraduate program.ย 
    • Englishย proficiencyย scoreย as required by AIT Language Center (IELTS-Academic: 6 writing and overall, TOEFL โ‰ฅ 550, or AIT EET โ‰ฅ 6.0).ย 
    • Work experience certificate provided by the employer.ย 
    • Income statement (spouse income if married, otherwise parent income statement).ย 
    • Completed ADB-JSP information sheet.ย 

    Policies and Proceduresย 

    • Scholarships are awarded only to the scholar and do not cover dependents.ย 
    • DIs may provide tuition fee discounts to outstanding scholars, as agreed with ADB.ย 
    • Preparatory/bridging courses (English or computer literacy) can be funded within AIT.ย 
    • Subsistence allowances are usually given monthly but may follow DI practice.ย 
    • Air travel reimbursement occurs upon successful completion of studies.ย 
    • An establishment allowance may beย provided onceย at the start of the scholarship.ย 
    • The ADB-JSP stipend supplements other financial support and may be partially or fully withdrawn if other sources are confirmed.ย 

    Terms of Awardsย 

    • Scholarships are for one to two years and offered at designated institutions in the Asia and Pacific region.ย 
    • Studies in economics, business, management, science and technology, and other development-related fields are eligible.ย 
    • Maximum scholarship duration is two years for MA, MS, and MBA programs.ย 

    Renewal of Scholarshipsย 

    • Initialย period is one year; renewal for a second year depends on satisfactory performance.ย 
    • Extension beyond two years isย generally notย allowed.ย 
    • Scholarships may beย suspendedย up to 12 months for valid reasons (health, family).ย 
    • ADB reviewsย totalย number of awards yearly and approves new scholars when incumbent scholars complete or withdraw.ย 

    Deferment, Replacement, and Transferย 

    • Deferment may be granted up to six months for valid reasons (e.g., pregnancy, family issues, visa delays).ย 
    • Replacement of dropouts during the academic year is not allowed.ย 
    • Transferย from one course or institution to another is not allowed.ย 

    Special Conditionsย 

    • Scholars must commit to return and work in their home countries for at least two years after graduation.ย 
    • Scholars must acknowledge employment restriction policies and cannot work at ADB for two years after graduation.ย 

    Termination of Scholarshipsย 

    • Scholarships may be terminated for unsatisfactory academic progress, legal violations, misconduct, or breach of ADB-JSP or student visa conditions.ย

    • Following this, AITย submitsย the ranked list to ADB, which recommends the awardees to the Executive Director of Japan for formal approval.ย
